Shopify's Summer ’25 Edition: New B2B Features for Manufacturers and Distributors

   |
June 2, 2025

Shopify’s Summer ’25 Edition has officially launched, introducing a wide range of platform updates across AI, checkout, performance, and B2B commerce. For enterprise manufacturers and distributors, this release includes several enhancements that strengthen Shopify’s position as a viable option for complex B2B needs.

The new features are designed to help teams keep data in sync, personalize the buyer journey, and reduce manual processes. With a clear focus on scaling operations, Shopify is closing the gap between traditional ERP-backed platforms and modern, flexible commerce solutions. In this post, we break down the most relevant B2B updates from the Summer ’25 Edition and explore how they can support digital growth for manufacturers and distributors.

Markets Now Available for B2B

Shopify’s Summer ’25 Edition extends Markets functionality to B2B. Enterprise teams can now create multiple B2B markets, each with its own catalogs, currencies, and storefront customizations. This makes it easier to tailor the buying experience based on customer segments rather than just geography.

With this update, B2B sellers can group customers into distinct markets and fine-tune product visibility, pricing, and themes for each one. For example, you can create a market for distributors, another for resellers, and offer each group a storefront that reflects their specific pricing and catalog. The “View as” preview feature also helps teams see exactly what each buyer will experience.

This functionality is available to Shopify Plus merchants and must be activated through the feature test drive.

VAT Number Validation and Reverse Charge Support

Shopify now supports automatic VAT number validation and reverse charge exemptions for B2B customers in the EU and UK. This helps reduce compliance risk and simplifies tax handling for cross-border orders.

When a customer address in the EU or UK is detected, the VAT number field appears automatically. Once added, the VAT number is validated and stored in the customer profile. If the order qualifies for the reverse charge exemption, such as a shipment from France to Ireland, Shopify will automatically apply the tax exemption and include the appropriate note on the invoice.

This Shopify Tax update is especially useful for manufacturers and distributors who serve B2B customers across Europe. It removes manual tax handling steps and ensures proper documentation, helping teams stay compliant without slowing down fulfillment. An active EU fulfillment location is required for the exemption to apply correctly.

Minimum and Maximum Order Value Limits

B2B sellers on Shopify Plus can now set order value thresholds directly in the Checkout Blocks app. This feature allows you to define a minimum and maximum subtotal for purchases, helping enforce internal policies or customer contract requirements without manual intervention.

For example, if your business requires a $1,000 minimum to fulfill wholesale orders or wants to limit orders over $15,000 to prevent inventory issues, you can now block checkout for anything outside that range. The rule can apply to all customers or only to B2B buyers.

What you can control:

  • Minimum and maximum order subtotal
  • Eligibility by customer type (B2B only or all customers)
  • Local currency conversion for international buyers

This gives manufacturers and distributors more flexibility in managing order volumes, while maintaining a smooth self-service experience for buyers.

Gift Cards In B2B Catalogs

Shopify now supports gift cards in B2B catalogs, making them easier to manage and sell to business customers. You can add gift cards directly from the product list when creating or editing a catalog. No custom setup or external tools required.

Gift cards follow the same catalog rules as other products. That means you can control which companies see them, set custom pricing if needed, and track their use through standard reporting.

This update is especially useful for companies offering gift cards as part of dealer incentives, partner rewards, or internal purchasing workflows. It simplifies catalog management while expanding your options for flexible value distribution.

NetSuite Works with Shopify B2B

Shopify’s updated NetSuite ERP Connector now supports key B2B data sync including company records, purchase orders, and payment terms. This enhancement improves operational efficiency and reduces the risk of errors across systems.

With this update, B2B merchants using Shopify Plus can sync:

  • Company profiles and customer data
  • Order details, including PO numbers
  • Assigned net payment terms

This level of integration helps ensure consistency between Shopify and NetSuite, especially for businesses with high order volumes or complex billing requirements. For manufacturers and distributors already relying on NetSuite as their ERP, this makes it easier to extend B2B commerce without duplicating work or creating manual touchpoints.

If you’re mapping out ERP integration plans or planning a Shopify Plus rollout, it's a good time to assess how this connector fits into your broader tech stack. Expanded App Support for B2B Workflows

Shopify’s Summer ’25 Edition expands the ecosystem of apps that support B2B workflows. Merchants can now connect tools like QuickBooks for accounting, enable collaborative purchasing features, and introduce new experiences like digital lookbooks—all within a B2B context.

Nine apps are now officially compatible with B2B use cases, including:

  • Accounting and invoicing tools like QuickBooks
  • Guided selling interfaces to support buyer decision-making
  • Collaboration features that let multiple users participate in the purchasing process

These integrations help B2B sellers go beyond transactional commerce to build a more flexible, team-friendly buying experience. For companies looking to streamline workflows or support more complex buyer journeys, these tools offer a starting point.

At Zaelab, we’ve integrated QuickBooks into several client ecosystems, including Precision Matthews, where it helped reduce manual work and improve order accuracy.

For organizations with more advanced B2B needs, we’ve built Portul, the only Shopify App to meet complex B2B needs and accelerate digital growth. Portul extends Shopify’s native capabilities with dynamic pricing, advanced account management, and automation tools that simplify operations at scale. One example is Certor, a sports equipment brand that used Portul to unify its B2B and D2C operations on Shopify in just six weeks.

Shopify Collective Removes Sales Minimum for U.S. Merchants

Shopify has removed the sales minimum requirement for joining Shopify Collective, making it easier for more merchants to participate as suppliers or retailers. U.S.-based businesses can now join the network regardless of their sales volume, expanding access to a broader range of potential partners.

For B2B merchants, Shopify Collective offers a way to build wholesale relationships directly within the Shopify ecosystem. Suppliers can connect with retailers to expand their distribution, while retailers can curate new product offerings without managing inventory upfront.

Smarter Discovery Tools in Shopify Collective

Shopify has introduced new discovery tools for merchants using Shopify Collective, making it easier to find suppliers and products that align with your store. Retailers can now search for suppliers by name or browse personalized recommendations based on search history and store data, all from the Discover page in the Shopify Collective app.

From a supplier’s profile, you can request pricing, view best-selling products, check shipping regions, and explore additional details like average ratings, margins, and social media links. Shopify also makes it easy to connect by sending your invitation to the supplier via email and allowing conversations to continue directly from there.

For B2B teams looking to expand product offerings or build wholesale relationships, these updates offer a faster, more curated way to find and vet new partners. It’s a small change that can help streamline product discovery and supplier outreach across your sales channels.
