ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a hands-on Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading Software Engineers who are building exceptional customer experiences for eCommerce stores around the world. You will be part of a team that is delivering large and complex projects to clients in different industries on several platforms. This role is pivotal in Zaelab’s aim and ability to have the most talented Engineers in the industry delivering quality digital commerce projects to meet and exceed client expectations.

In this position, you will help interview Engineering candidates, contribute to client projects, keep stakeholders accountable, meet deadlines, and measure team impact and needs. If you thrive in helping Engineers succeed and grow, then this is for you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Write code at least 50% of time to a client project in Java
  • Oversee the day-to-day engineers work and doing the code review
  • Work closely with Engineers to provide career path and guidance
  • Create and oversee the execution of personal development plans for engineers of different levels
  • Be a mentor to new Engineers
  • Gather feedback from Delivery Managers and other team members and provide to Engineers
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring process to attract world-class talent
  • Partner with Director of Engineering to solve general engineering problems on your project(s), work on strategy, participate in architecture product development discussions
  • Consult on potential clients, participate in POC and R&D projects
  • Contribute to engineering projects focusing on improving our ways of performing while scaling the business

Requirements


  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, 2 of which — in a leadership role
  • Experience in managing and growing both early career and senior engineers
  • Experience with Java stack (JavaScript and JS frameworks will be a strong plus)
  • Can rapidly earn the trust of a technical team
  • Focus on maximizing impact, for yourself and your engineering team
  • Ability to provide valuable input to any technical or product discussion such as design documentation and white-boarding sessions
  • Kind and intellectually mature
  • Experience with agile/scrum process and continuous deployment
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical issues as needed
  • Consistently deliver high-quality products on time
  • Nice to have eCommerce experience
  • Nice to have SAP Hybris experience
  • Comfortable researching and adopting new technologies
